Watercoloured Cozy Cottage

I finally remembered to add the Host set Cozy Cottage to my last order! It’s an adorable set with 7 stamps, available in wood or clear mount. With 4 images and 3 sentiments, it’s very versatile, and makes great little scenes. As you know, I love using my Brusho Crystal Colours, so I brought them out to create this watercoloured Cozy Cottage.

FIRST COLOUR APPLICATION

Watercoloured Cozy Cottage

This is my unfinished panel. I had applied a first layer of colour, and had started adding a second layer to add more depth and shadows.

WATERCOLOURED COZY COTTAGE

Wouldn’t you just love to be tucked into the cottage, sitting by the window with a cup of tea? Perhaps with a blanket, and a sleeping kitty on your lap?

DETAILS

Start with a panel of Watercolour Paper, and stamp the cottage image in Memento Black ink, towards the top of the panel. Next, stamp the brick fence & gate towards the front, then the chairs in between. Use Memento Tuxedo Black ink, to ensure that your images don’t bleed when you start to colour.

You can see by the first picture, that I used a plastic ‘palette’ tray for my colours. If you don’t have a palette, use your Clear Blocks – they’re a great substitute! I sprinkled the Brusho Crystals into separate wells, then added water with my Aqua Painter, as I picked up the colours. I also mixed colours together, to get the hues that I wanted.

For the grass, I mixed some Prussian Blue with Yellow. For the thatched roof, I mixed Yellow with Moss Green. To get the different shades of browns, I mixed the Brilliant Red with the Moss Green and some Yellow, adding water to lighten it as I went along.  It’s very much a ‘work in progress’ – but a fun one!

After my panel had dried, I went back and added some highlights with our retired Signo Gel Pen in White.

PUTTING IT TOGETHER

I cut the painted panel to size using the Big Shot and Layering Squares Framelits. It’s then layered onto a panel of Basic Black cardstock with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The sentiment, also from the Cozy Cottage stamp set, is stamped in Memento Black ink onto a strip of Whisper White, and attached underneath, again with Dimensionals.

The whole panel is then mounted onto a card base of Pacific Point cardstock.

I do like to add layers to my cards; it’s just something I find adds some ‘oomph’ to an otherwise flat card.

INSIDE STAMPING

Of course, I always have to stamp inside! Since I don’t know who this card may go to, I didn’t add a sentiment. But I did add the cute little wildflower bundle, also in the Cozy Cottage set. I used my already mixed Brusho Crystal Colours and Aqua Painter to colour the flowers and stems.
